Navy here, but…

I was mount captain on the 25mm’s we have on the LHD’s. Two weeks before I started terminal leave we were doing a crew served weapon shoot. Those 25’s were terrible at getting the links crumpled up so we had a hard stop as usual.

So in the Navy, we have “weapons department.” It doesn’t matter if your job is to load bombs on planes or you work on the crew served weapons, you’re in the same department. So this new Aviation Ordnance chief comes down to “help” us fix this misfire. He’d never even seen a 25mm up close before.

Our gun is fucked, it’s all kinds of mangled, 3 rounds and twisted links are still in the housing. We’re about to take it into the shop to take it apart and he tells us to put it down. We set it down and this mother fucker grabs a screwdriver, places it on the unstruck round and raises a hammer in the air. I grab him and toss him away. Who the fuck thinks it’s a good idea to kickstart a SAPHEI-T round?

He flips the fuck out on me with “IM A FUCKING CHIEF PETTY OFFICER WE’RE TAKING THIS UP THE CHAIN.” We took it up the chain lol. I talked to his boss’ boss, eas’d the next week, and from what I heard he was no longer allowed to participate in shoots.

That’s a little out of my depth, but burning a flag is Supreme Court certified free speech. So I think it’s generally accepted as kosher to do.
