Most people are pretty sloppy when it comes to things like murder and leave evidence in ways they think they wouldn’t. He’s 100% going to be the prime suspect (and maybe only suspect) and the police will investigate everything they possibly can. No way he walks away from this.

888 and Pan Asia are the best Asian stores in the KC area. If they don’t have it I don’t imagine any of the other stores will have it. They usually have a lot of frozen seafood. Can ask one of the employees if they have it or ever carry it.

Make sure to do CS internships in college and you'll be fine.

One short stint isn’t really going to ruin your chances. If you’d prefer you can keep it off the resume to avoid questions about it in initial interviews- but keeping it on there won’t be a dealbreaker.

Why wait until the one year mark? Arbitrary time periods like that don’t mean anything.

I got my current job by responding to a LinkedIn recruiter whose message caught my eye. Get paid more and work life balance is way better. If you find a better opportunity through a LinkedIn recruiter why wouldn’t you take it?

Negative feedback is always hard to give. You never know how someone will respond to it.

If your job wanted to fire you- they’d do it silently. Why give feedback to someone you’re getting rid of anyways? The more likely situation is that your manager is noticing performance issues with you and is giving you advice on how to improve. If you don’t improve it might lead to a PIP or firing, but you’re relatively new so you should be able to work hard and bounce back.

Lots of juniors are afraid to ask for help- take the advice and ask for help instead of struggling on a task for multiple days.

For bbq- Joes, Q39, Slaps are usually my top picks. Joes is the most famous (also my favorite)- definitely a must try before you leave. I recommend the gas station location.

If you love outdoors stuff- going down south for a day or two near Branson yields some good hiking. There’s also some beautiful hiking in Arkansas near the Missouri border if you’re interested. If you intend to stay in the state- tablerock state park is about 3 hours away. There’s also a waterfall in Joplin which is nice to visit. Going a different direction- devils icebox in Columbia is really cool. You can go inside the cave if that’s your thing. More locally- Parkville has some trails which are nice.

This feels like a /r/humblebrag. Look at me I graduated a few years ago and make so much money! Please compliment me. Also I know more than everyone else that complains about interviewing- because like I mentioned I graduated 2 years ago and make so much money. Leetcode is good because it made me rich- everyone that complains is complaining because they aren't as smart and rich as me!!!

Shouldn't the coach be punished for pushing the player as well? I don't think he should've pushed the coach back... but really no repercussions?

he said that he finds the worst democracy better than the best autocracy,

I don't think this is as naïve a view as you're painting it out to be. However I think some of the beauty of the show is that it doesn't necessarily tilt one way or the other. Different people will watch the show and have different opinions. I personally wouldn't want to live in a society under Reinhard even though he is portrayed as an ideal autocratic leader- but that doesn't mean that perhaps people like you wouldn't mind. After all- even at the end of the show, many characters on the side of democracy chose not to join the Empire- even when faced with death.

It's basically a meme to shit on America on Reddit. There's anti-vax people all over the world. Lots of places way worse than America- and plenty of countries even in Europe that are way more right-leaning than America.

Yeah- you can actually see a guy put his hand down and it doesn't get close to the cat. They'd have to hang off to even attempt to get the cat- at which point both would fall.

I’m sorry for your situation. Instead of other locations I’d recommend looking at remote job listings instead (in addition to local postings). Hopefully post pandemic more companies decide to stick with WFH accommodations.

Most startups fail.

Most people don’t limit themselves to just their area unless they’re already in a major tech hub.

Yes. Standards aren’t at the level of the big companies I’ve worked at- but standards do exist and there’s constantly efforts to improve engineering quality of life. For example- when I joined we had code reviews but no code standards- there’s now internal documents used for code standards and styling that’s checked during code reviews. There’s a big push for reusable components so that we aren’t rewriting everything from scratch (used to happen a lot), etc.

Managers are required to have 1:1 meetings, we follow agile to the best of our ability. I’d say the difference between working at my current startup and my old big company is pretty small now. We do work at a faster pace because we’re in growth mode- but we have enough employees now that people don’t feel too burnt out. We also are regularly encouraged to take vacation time to prevent burn out. We don’t have a lot of the bureaucracy that exists in big companies- developers are given more freedom here and we don’t have to go through multi week processes just to get code signed off for production release.

You do still have to do a lot of learning on your own- there’s no official mentorship program at my startup like you might find at big companies, even for new grads, but everyone is happy to help if you send them a ping. In general Im highly enjoying my current startup job- I don’t think it has all the craziness, low pay, and long hours that people post on hear in regards to brand new startups. My company has been around since 2012 and has doubled in size during the pandemic because of their remote work policy.

My experience from a startup has been the complete opposite from yours. I’m guessing you joined early stage startups. Mine recently became a unicorn (I joined before this status), I get paid better than when I worked for a big tech company. Most people that got hired the same date as me are still there as well.

These seem like my only option

That's how they keep getting people. They prey on your desperation. If you don't get replies from your applications- you need to work on your resume.

I will say you're asking a lot of questions that will get different responses depending on who is answering.

I work for a great company and have excellent work-life balance. I work no more than 40 hours a week, only sometimes work late if I'm approaching a deadline and there's more work that needs to be done (usually a result of scope change last minute...). My job has true unlimited PTO- we actually have minimum PTO to force people to take a certain amount of days off per quarter. I think I probably average around 6 weeks PTO per year but I spread it out a lot.

My prior company was the opposite though. Working overtime was expected- if for nothing else- to show your boss how "devoted" you are to your work. A coworker of me told me I should randomly log on and push some code at 8pm so it looked like I was up late fixing bugs. On call schedule was horrible- I was woken up at 4am several times (current job has no on-call). Raises were rare and rarely above 2%. Just wasn't a good time.

I can understand that. I perhaps wrongly interpreted your experience as meaning work experience- though experience through projects and other forms are definitely valuable in making up for work experience.

You mention you were an ECE student. I know every program is different- but did you not work on any coding projects in college? I had some ECE friends in college and they had some projects that were pretty much the same exact ones I worked on. All the projects on my resume were from college classes. If you don’t have any college projects currently on your resume- considering putting them on there. You don’t have to specify it was for a class- just try to sell it to make it sound interesting. Be prepared to talk about it in an interview if asked.

There’s also a plethora of projects out there that can take a few hours max to complete. They may not be super complex, but you don’t need anything super complex for a resume. Knock a project out in a weekend that sounds more intricate than it actually is and hope for the best.

Genuinely wish you luck in your job search. It can be difficult but if you keep at it I’m sure you’ll find a job.

You can't get a job without experience.

This is simply untrue and is just something pessimistic people say when they've been unable to find a job. There is plenty of jobs out there, getting them is a different matter. I'm not saying this to undermine your negative experience with applying to jobs- you won't get that job if you keep blaming the market rather than working on improving yourself to make yourself a better qualified candidate.

Can you get any interviews? If no- work on your resume. We have threads on reddit that honestly give good advice- there are other subs and more "official" resume help places out there. If you can't sell yourself well enough on your resume- work on projects to put on there. Can get interviews but can't pass them? Work on behavioral interview skills. Lots of people focus on the technical aspects of coding interviews- but a lot of the time if you come across as likeable and easy to work with, you might get picked over an antisocial engineer that did slightly better than you in the technical portion. Do well in interviews but fail on technical questions? Grind leetcode. It sucks but it works.

How many places have you applied to anyways? I mean nothing wrong with working for Revature if you're okay with the fact that they'll take advantage of your desperation to underpay you for the work you'll be doing. You CAN get a job without Revature- but you need some work to get there, and you can't keep blaming the industry for not being able to get a job.

Try to get an internship in game dev. I found out what I wanted to do (and what I didn’t want to do) in college through internships. Some fields like cyber security sounded interesting to me but once I started doing real work on it, I found out I hated it.

Game dev has a bad rep but obviously there’s plenty of people in the industry that enjoy it- otherwise people wouldn’t stay in the field. Regardless of what anyone says in this thread- you should try to gain first hand experience in the field so you can gauge it for yourself.
