I didn’t mean to imply that your taxes would get you health insurance, no. For all I care the AOK is more “state” than anything else, but yes, you need to pay separately for them, they’re not included in taxes. You can get the state to pay for your health insurance though, if you qualify for the various social welfare schemes.

Nobody ever checked. I have no idea how they would. All I do is live in Germany, and I’m paying taxes for “income from abroad”. Nobody cares where exactly that income comes from. The German state has no jurisdiction over my employer. I guess it’s my choice to be employed by a non-German organization, and I’m accepting that the state can’t protect me from it.

I used to work in the office in Tokyo for many years before deciding to return to Germany, at which point we came to this agreement and figured out the details over time. Which came down to the company not having to pay anything for me in Japan in terms of taxes or such, since I’m not living there, and since they’re not in Germany and wouldn’t have the first clue about what to do here, I’m doing it all myself.

That’s actually a part of humanity I like a lot. It’s just stupid little quirks that probably very few people actually take seriously, but we have somehow collectively decided that we’ll do this because… we’re doing it. No particular reason, it makes little sense, but it’s also no extra work and it doesn’t hurt anyone, so… let’s just do it.

Yeah, that sounds like more trouble than it’s worth. Yes, the state will take a good bunch of your money, but in return you don’t have to worry about health insurance or much else. Especially if you have kids or ever think of having some, trying to somehow get by illegally is a no go, and the benefits you receive from the state are worth it.

Your employer doesn’t have to be registered in Germany. Mine is registered in Japan and Japan only, pays me my full salary without deductions, and I pay freiwillig gesetzliche health insurance, taxes and all the rest myself. There’s a tax category for “income from abroad” for that kind of thing. Yeah, it’s not as automagic as being employed by a German employer, but entirely doable.

Wat‽ If you’re not supposed to charge it in low power mode, then when‽ If this combo would be that bad for the battery, Apple would take care of disabling it automatically.

Low power mode merely reduces non-essential background activity to save power. You’re just spreading FUD.

Had the same, weirdly only in the office. The network activity indicator was rotating constantly. I suspect it decided to download something for whatever reason that it got stuck on. Simply restarting fixed it for me.

Spaßfakt: die meisten Lebensmittel können recycled werden, nur ist der Recyclingprozess sehr langwierig und aufwendig. Ich finde der Staat sollte mehr machen, um den Prozess abzukürzen.
