I remember when the VC overseas chronograph were actually “reasonably” priced and I was seriously considering one.
Now? Forget it

I owe a lot to an ENT friend of mine. He used to be a big spender, had a financial advisor leaching 2% off him, etc. He had left for a few years and when he returned he was different. Happier and more content. We got to talking and basically showed me the light in respects to money and the various leeches in this world that try to part you from it. Also, get off the spending/buying compulsion that’s only feeding a temporary dopamine rush and pursue what’s lasting in this life. Money helps but without mental and physical health, one has nothing.

I’m reading it now. Written in the ‘90s but I think the general idea is valid. Many physicians get taken advantage of by financial advisors and insurance salesmen as well. I know I did. Had the whole life policy and all. Don’t get me started on family with their hands out because I’m the “ rich” doctor.

Style, fit and finish as good as anything out there. I love the asymmetric dials on their pano models. No, they don’t hold value but most watches outside AP, patek or Rolex dont. I own 2 pieces and I’ve sold another 2 very easily. I had a seventies panorama date with a gorgeous blue dial I still don’t know why I sold.

Physician as well. A lot of us are terrible with money, including myself up to 10 years ago

The article is not available but I’d guess they were Firing into side jobs for extra income. Living on 21600 is purposely choosing to live at poverty level

Agree 100%. It’s a tough used market right now but buying new is suffering that depreciation as soon as the vehicle leaves the dealership.
As a word of advice, I also went through a flashy car period in my life. Unless you’re really tracking it or auto crossing it etc. it’s just not worth being the cool guy in the valet line. Reading the “millionaire next door” really opened my eyes onto who really owns these fancy toys. “Big hat, no cattle” syndrome.

It would be political suicide to even consider canning SS. Reduced? Possible but not likely. There would be blue hairs in the streets with torches and pitchforks

I remember going to ADs in St Thomas like 5-6 years ago and all of the cases were full. Rolex with daytonas, AP with RO, Patek with nautilus, etc.
Recent visit to Rolex AD and they literally had one watch, an ugly, small ladies watch they obviously could not sell

Whole or universal is a scam. I got scammed as a young professional into a policy. I’m finally turning it in for some cash value but when I ran the numbers it turns out I paid something like $850 year for life insurance when a term policy would likely have been a quarter of that.
Yes, I’m getting some cash value from the policy, but all of that excess money I paid could have been invested and made far more over the years. All I can say is that the money was “safe” but a very poor investment.

It is a buzzkill. Is it accurate? Who knows. It would delay me a year or 2 because I’m conservative with estimates with my FiIRE number. I think they’re overly conservative personally, but that’s just my opinion. I know as much about the future as anyone in the finance community which is next to nothing.

I’m still surprised by it as we have no Tesla dealership even remotely close. Call me out of date but the lack of a human presence in dealing with a large purchase like a car makes me uncomfortable. Not that some dealerships are so wonderful either.

Fantastic piece. I doubt you’re in the watch collection game to make money so don’t worry about depreciation. I probably lost 17000 from trading in a breguet marine rose gold chrono recently but that’s the way it goes with this “hobby”. Everything worth something now is already snatched up or you have to su$& an AD [email protected]& to get one so don’t factor depreciation in, IMO.
