Most people that you know of don't. People in Asia and Europe eat it all the time

COMMENT 4d ago

I thought the Noho location is actually okay. 2 squat racks so you got to go when it's not busy. The east village location is way smaller and depressing

COMMENT 4d ago

The mock meets sound cool, can't find info on their site. Do you know how often they run those / if it's open for nonmembers?

COMMENT 4d ago

I go to blink and depending on the location it's actually not that bad. Some locations got 3 racks instead of the usual 2, and I've seen some people go pretty heavy and the staff honestly doesn't give a damn

2 out of 16 isn't ideal, but doesn't seem super bad for dating apps? What's your usual ratio for normal likes?

3

COMMENT 11d ago

Curious too. I know saigon social has done it in the past but I haven't tried it / feels like it'd be too fancy for me lol

I try to eat croissants layer by layer

COMMENT 20d ago

I'm so glad! The staff is incredibly nice too and the owners are Viet. What did you get??

2

COMMENT 20d ago

Yeahhh exactly this guy knows! I remember liking Turtle Tower pho (especially since they have quay / fried dough stick), didn't get to try their bun cha :(

5

COMMENT 21d ago

You're right, I heard it's pretty good just never been

6

COMMENT 21d ago

My VN friends and I thought the bun cha at Hanoi House was pretty bad lol , the sauce was just super far off. I don't think I've found a good one in NYC/US frankly because it's a northern not southern thing.

COMMENT 21d ago

Commonly VN culture & food in the US stems from the Southern war refugee who came to the US after the Vietnam war around 1975 - since then it's become its own Vietnamese American thing. Sort of like how pizza became its own thing in New York with the Italian Americans.

I'm from the North, so to me Vietnamese food is the food I grew up eating in Vietnam, not the VN-American stuff in California or Houston TX. We're more puristic when it comes to flavors - pho broth should taste mainly of beef, dishes should highlight fresh ingredients not mask them with sauces, no hoisin, etc.

Northern born Vietnamese (not Southern) - Em in dumbo/bensonhurt, Hanoi House in EV, Banh Mi Co Ut in Chinatown, Banh in UWS. Wasn't super impressed with Saigon Social

COMMENT 27d ago

Snacks:

Banh Mi Co Ut for banh mi / vietnamese snacks (try banh bot loc!)
Fong On for tofu pudding / rice cake
Ling Kee for beef jerky

There's also bibble and sip

But then don't you have big bowl-sized chunk of milk and berries? How do you even eat it?

Hey, I just want to add to the voices here trying to tell you that you matter, and I sincerely hope that you're getting better. Not every second, every minute has to be better, but as long as there's another day there's another chance for things to look up :)

COMMENT Jul 13 '21

You seem like such a cool, obviously thoughtful person. I'd hate it if your stories go to waste

COMMENT Jul 11 '21

The pic isn't cute/meaningful enough to who you are imo to risk it. You don't want any doubt when people are making a quick decision

I've been in the same type of boat and it's true - if you try your best to work it out and it's not working out, you have to leave. "Work it out' doesn't mean "make it work". It's hard, but it's a leap of faith that you and your son deserve better and hopefully a lesson you want your kid to learn
