Just curious, why did you leave it at f2.2 and not have it wide open at f1.8?

Is it the ISO that was too high at f1.8?

December will be a blast here in Dubai, especially JBR - just wear your mask and get vaxxed if you haven't done so already

You have it much better than most, with your Canadian passport. Minimum wage is pretty high. Move to a lower cost of living city and you'll be fine. Your mom (if she is Canadian as well) can start collecting old age pension if she is 65+ and have lived in Canada for 10 yrs or more.

Emirates NBD Priority Banking - what are really the advantages? I suppose avoiding Eva is an advantage in itself

Can't believe no one has mentioned L'antica pizzeria by Michele at City Walk

Amazing pizza, beautiful ambience - from Naples

It was also featured in Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts (the Naples location)

Cool contraption.

You can also press this directly into a standard sized French Press

If you look closely, you might be able to find Lewis in there with his orange jumpsuit

Interesting - most of the time I'm trying to make my AP brew less acidic

How did this taste?

ps. has anyone ever tried to mix some egg shells into their brew to reduce acidity? I heard it could work, just haven't tried!

They're just Friday brunches - brunch has a very different meaning in Dubai

Which one? Fountain Views has the best views and a nice pool, Dubai Mall has great convenience, Downtown is the one that burned down and is really hustle bustle cause of the restaurants, and Skyview is a bit out of the way but close to the metro.

Thanks, glad to hear my water isn't too hot. I'm not new to the AP, but I don't really measure things to a science since the AP is so forgiving.

It's 1 level scoop of grounds.

Thanks. I did an impulse buy today and got the 20mm f1.8 G at the Sony store for $849 all in.

I hope that the kit lens 28-60mm f4-5.6, the 50mm f2.5 G, and the 20mm f1.8 G will serve me well for the next little while!!

Time to sell all my APSC lenses!

Exactly. My grind is just larger than espresso grind. Usually when I pour water in, dribbles of it leak through, I then usually use the plunger to just above the circle around the 4 mark.

I've rented with Thrifty a ton of times and they've been fine. The JBR location sucks though. I usually go to the Dubai Mall location.

I picked up some Ethiopian beans the other day at a boutique coffee shop. They're supposed to be heirloom beans from the Gelana Abaya region. The coffee shop roasted them a 1.5 weeks ago and I just ground some with my Hario this morning...

No scale, just 1 level AP scoop, ~95C water (I know some people may say it's too hot, but I like it this hot), I fill the AP half way, stir 20 times vigourously, pour the rest of the hot water in and then let it sit for 5min. Then I gently press.

Thank you!

I have my A7C kit lens and a 50mm F2.5 G, that are FF that I will play around with for now. Thinking of the 20mm F1.8 later!

Help! Sigma 16mm 1.4 (APSC lens) on FF - apart from the crop, what am I losing?

Just because smart meters are installed doesn't mean the utlity is capable of pushing real time data to the customer. The data still has to go through the field area network, to the MDMS for validation, estimating and editing and then through the CIS system.

The primary use case for the smart meter was to eliminate the need for a field worker to come read the manual meter, not push real time data to the customer.

Electric utilities had smart meters in place for almost a decade and finally, now, they are starting to roll out apps and customer facing services that allow customers to work with real time data.

All I'm saying is that it will take time for water utilities to catch up.

Water utilities are behind electric utilities. Alot of the times, even though you are billed by the electric utility (I.e., Alectra, Toronto Hydro, London Hydro etc.) the electric utility is just billing in behalf of the municipality through an affiliate relationship code agreement.

Having said that, the electric utility is not responsible for alerting you on your usage. In fact the water network is the responsibility of the municipality.

Back to my first point, water utilities are archaic. Electric utilities are finally moving towards having apps or in home displays to provide notifications on time of use, high usage etc. Water utilities will lag behind many years. The exceptions are water utilities in areas like Las Vegas or Dubai where they really try to minimize their network losses because water is expensive in the desert.

Best to monitor your own leaks.
