They'll always be awful because there are too many constituents to keep happy with differing incentives, and FERPA means its really hard to defend yourself.

I was an area coordinator in grad. school and a person did some awful shit and were held accountable. They lied to their parents because they knew their discipline record was private. Their parents went online to raise hell and named me personally.

I responded very carefully. I simply stated that what they were stating was not true, and that I would be glad to share the full details as soon as their child signed the FERPA waiver.

Now the school was pissed as they just want to say nothing, but my name was invoked so they could fuck right off.

The thread got wild and people were telling the student to sign it so they could show what a bunch of shit bags we were.

Long story short, they call me in a panic because the parents were all about it too and wanted them to sign the waiver. They knew the documentation would make them look really really bad and wanted no part of it and it would make their parents look like assholes.

I basically said they needed to muzzle their parents or one of the other persons was bound to leak their copy of the documentation (the injured party) which would not be a violation on my part, and they'd basically be ruined for being a lying asshole. I'd make it my mission for that to follow them to every job until they hit the grave.

He told his parents a closer version of the truth and they immediately stopped.

He later got drunk at a party at this folks house, jumped head first in a pool and winded up paralyzed from the waist down. I feel really really terrible for him. He was a dick and made bad decisions and rarely paid much of a price, but that one day what a price he paid for something you don't even think about.

Is this behavioural trait limited to 9/11 truthers, conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers, etc, or do all human beings (~normies) suffer from it?

Everyone will suffer from it as long as there are incentives in place to reinforce that belief. I'm absolutely nuts if I think I am right about everything or will be seen as right on 20 years. But there are huge incentives for me to carry my current belief and huge disincentives to abandonment.

There are lots of people who go to church or remain part of a faith community who do not believe. Why? Either because they are afraid to leave, or there are other incentives in place to stay that are more powerful.

if you are all in on a conspiracy you have a sense of superiority, belonging, entertainment, novelty, etc. Leaving takes that away and only leaves you with regret or feeling foolish, etc. There just isn't a sufficient enough welcoming party or incentives to leave that group. Those are really really powerful forces at work.

Upon what is this belief based (literally, not rhetorically)?

We are programmed to believe stories. We'll likely believe the first story we hear in the absence of some other story we'd prefer to believe. Once I believe story A, even if there is evidence that story B is likely more grounded in facts and evidence, is that really enough for someone to abandon story A? Especially if story A is serving my needs.

I think its a huge waste of time to discuss, because I believe that to change someones mind you not only need the evidence, but the incentives to adopt a new story. Humans are really loss averse.

So I refuse to argue about 9/11 anymore because I can only argue with facts. I cannot provide someone proper incentives and a new narrative that they can adopt to replace the prior story they'd integrated into their person hood.

So how is it scientists or other people can much easily switch? Because the story they are invested and believe in is about the process and discarding one belief for another is woven into that story.

So you have people who believe A or B. Then you have Group C who inherently don't really believe either, but more believe in C which is the inherent value in discarding A or B whenever possible for an alternative.

It sounds like I am holding up C as superior. Not exactly. If C always believes they are in a position to determine when A or B is correct or incorrect, they suffer their own problem, Because its possible A, B, or C are correct but nobody can properly identify why? Sometimes that is even more dangerous.

Its possible or even likely that some crazy nut job is right about some really weird particular aspect of COVID. But they aren't right based on any real evidence or logic, they are right because a room full of 10,000 idiots, one idiot will be right about something insane they said. They were correct because chance is a thing. Would you have them replace a slew of scientists moving forward? No. The scientists did the process properly, but lacked the resources or knowledge to be correct. You'd still pay attention to them becasue 80% of the time they'll get it right.

Its not this ladys job to decide if this girl is fat or not. Its not her job to decide if she should wear shorts or not. This lady can go get fucked. None of it is any of her business.

BUT

From the pain in that voice and her response, it sounds like despite her statement that she loves herself, her weight clearly sounds like a real source of concern and insecurity. I know we are in the middle of the fat acceptance movement and I am sure there are some who find comfort there, but overwhelmingly I think most ( or a good percentage) of people just cant convince themselves..

I say this as someone who struggled at various points in my life. I dosen't matter how much people say it doesn't matter or how much people demand acceptance for people who are overweight. Its really really really hard to feel contentment when you feel like you cannot control your own body, and conquering yourself and your own demons (drugs, weight, mental health) is maybe one of the most significant accomplishments you can feel.

I wouldn't give a damn how much society accepted fatness, I know that I would never accept it for myself. No amount of love, money, or admiration would change that. So you work it until it works. At least for me anyways.

I don't give a shit if you like Joe Rogan or Bernie Sanders.

Either the video was real or it isn't.

There is a left wing and right wing version of this, and its infuriating.

If you believe that a natural immune system is the best thing because this is a natural occurrence that developed on its own, that has different implications if it was modified in a lab.

Most viruses are going to have a relatively high survival rate because over generations you'll have some adaptations. Yes, some will always die, but overall you have the benefit of inherited immunity.

If it was created or modified in a lab, then you have a much closer situation to population who has not had that benefit and they'll get wiped out in much larger proportions. That is something we've absolutely observed.

having said that the ICU's are PACKED with single and double does vaccinated individuals.

That is bullshit. I transport people every goddamn day. There are some single and double stick in ICU, but the overwhelming are non vaxxed individuals, and the data supports that. They are also there longer and much more likely to die.

There are more unvaccinated, they are there longer, and they are more likely to die. And what is your answer? That its a great way to get natural immunity!!! JFC.

You know who isn't there? People with vaccination complications.

Again, what are your qualifications? You clearly cannot understand basic data, basic medical science, or even basic logic.

You know, there is something awesome about the #1 player being the secondary bread winner in his own house (estimates are his fortune is 1/2 hers) and being globally less famous at their peaks.

I mean if your wife is 2X as rich than you, arguably more famous and was leonardo dicaprios fuck buddy for a couple years, you could either feel really insecure, or embrace it like a badass.

Why haven’t you asked the only question I’ve asked?

Why are hospitals not packed with people who have the vaccine? Why are they instead packed with non vaccinated covid patients?

Qualified? I have transported dozens and dozens of covid patients (EMT) to a hospital and seen taken their history and seen their vac status.

What are your credentials?

Your 13X doesn’t mean shit if that comes at the cost of a much higher death rate. How is that simple concept so hard for you?m

Infection and severity of infection are important.

COMMENT 1d ago

that really only proves fatal if you're old fat and have 4 other diseases at the same time.

You do realize that even if you do not die of the disease, that some have long lasting complications right?

If this vaccine is that bad, why the fuck are hospitals packed with people with COVID and not people with vaccine complications?

You think these assholes only steal from big companies?

12

COMMENT 1d ago

Yes and no. Companies absolutely factor in shrink into their pricing. I helped negotiate a food service contact for a college, and when we look at the contract we absolutely could see the shrink calculation into the final board price for students.

We could absolutely lower our final price if we could contain shrinkage.

COMMENT 2d ago

Because this purpose is to get away alive isn’t it?

One way is to neutralize a threat and the other is just to get away or flee if possible. Armor does that.

Armor gives you a fighting chance. If you are unfortunate enough to be attacked, you have to hope they miss and you get a chance to either get away or shoot back. If they hit you in the first 1-2 shots, it’s all over. Your first magazine is useless much less the second.

Armor requires zero proficiency. It will work just as well under stressed or not. Armor will not suffer a failure to feed and armor does not require knowledge of where the assailants are to work.

You can jerk off to this wanna be tactical hero idea of a gunfight if you want, but it’s bullshit. You are lucky if you even have a chance at pulling a gun if you are attacked.

I don’t give a shit if you carry an extra magazine, but if you think it’s in any way superior to body armor instead, you are an idiot with delusions.

I’ve spent 2 decades as a volunteer EMT and seen some GSW. They never had a chance to deploy a gun. That is anecdotal of course but the data supports that.

Are you so ignorant to believe added capacity has saved more officer lives than the addition of body armor? Do you really think a soldier with more than 2 brain cells would trade body armor for an additional magazine?

Unless you entirely dictate the terms of the fight, armor gives you the ability to even be in the fight.

The Hollywood shootout was one of the longest lasting and crazy volume fights in the US. Body armor absolutely allowed then to stay in the fight much much longer.

Over 1,000 rounds fire right? None of that was possible without their armor. They were shot immediately leaving BOA at laurel canyon by waiting police.

That fight is over in 5 secs. otherwise.
