Do you want to give us a preview on how you plan to discount "someone else"

Sure. Just to clarify a couple things: by "this", I'm referring specifically to considering the Xinjiang abuses as genocide. The last I heard about this was around Mid-2020, where Zenz was the only one talking about characterizing it as genocide rather than ethnocide. This issue is distant enough from things that I can influence that I don't bother doing much research into it. Somehow I missed the news about many other political and civil society institutions considering it, except for with Pompeo's office. This means that it looks to me like it was still just mostly Zenz arguing for this a year later, which obviously isn't a good look.

Luckily, Wikipedia has a list, with the one by Newlines Instutite being a particularly well-compiled review. So I do indeed think that there is considerable agreement that the evidence bears out that it is a genocide.

In addition, I misunderstood Zenz's work. Zenz has again fallen victim to news outlets and headlines misreporting and exaggerating his work. In fact, Zenz's work doesn't really try to argue the larger argument of characterizing it as genocide. It tries to give evidence that one of the conditions is satisfied.

do you want us to be surprised?

Well, I suppose you probably aren't very surprised. After all, I did this armchair Googling because your provocative comment irritated me so much, which was probably your intention all along. Of course, it would have been nice if you could have given me a couple pointers or links to start me off with, and that would help convince someone less interested than I am.

Dr. Adrian Zenz

Look everytime I hear something like this about Xinjiang it's always this guy. Call me again when it's someone else.

girls who are my friends

I believe the question has an implicit context of when you meet strangers and they behave friendly or flirty.

It depends on what hunting down means. A clandestine effort like hunting down Bin Laden can potentially be pretty unethical but doesn't cost much in terms of resources.

With respect to "universally accessible toilets", it's because the generic toilet isn't (lacks rails, bidet, etc.)

A good rule of thumb is if you have something to say about someone so rude you won't say it to their face, you probably shouldn't leave an internet comment saying that either.

It's thought to be more resistant than the early COVID variant, but is thought to be outcompeted by delta https://www.deseret.com/coronavirus/2021/8/9/22612673/lambda-variant-delta-growth-spread , hence its existence doesn't make the situation worse than just delta

You also have to consider that it would still be noted as interesting if it were all the same letters, so you still have to add that probability mass.

Bangkok police used tartan armbands as a badge of shame for minor infractions. However, the badges were treated as collectibles by those offending officers forced to wear them. Since 2007, in order to avoid the perverse incentive, the police department has been using armbands with the cute Hello Kitty cartoon character.

This does not make sense to me

Sure, repaying debts is often a better zero-risk option than t-bills. But new grads should often take on more risk than that.

IMO your charity money works most efficiently if you just personally invest it and then will it to your most trusted charities when you die (or earlier if you've found one).

3

COMMENT 5d ago

No, you have no reasonable way to verify how well your money will be spent by them, or if they need your dollar. For every bit you feel obliged to give in random acts of kindness where the utility is not obvious, consider donating to an established charity you trust whose cause you believe in, that way your dollar will go further. If you don't have any such charity, just save it or invest it, while earmarking it for donation once you have found one such.

As someone else mentioned in a great-cousin comment, you actually have better liquidity if you put that money to investments than if you used that to pay your loan early.

Man, that's terrifying. I personally wouldn't be able to take it if my own commute consisted of crossing a dry river bed full of rolling metal rocks and taunting apes.
