How do you tell your clients to do this? It's not always necessary but sometimes it is. I just go 'go like this' and they have to open their eyes and look at me which probably interrupts their zen. Especially wearing a mask its difficult.

Not super common but if you can keep up with not having stubble then fine And! and you have to make sure you've not got razor burn. Shaving properly is a painstaking process. I got laser hair removal on my legs I hated it so much.

What I would reccomend, however, is to trim it. I'm a barber and my husband is quite hairy so I take a I think a 4 (1/4"), or it might have been a 2 or 3, accross his back to trim it shorter and it's much better. Just be aware that the guards are shorter in trimmers (small ones) vs clippers (bigg ones) and if you go too short it might have the opposite effect.

I've only ever seen people cut from the back and overdraft back when you get towards the front. This way you def wont get too short on the crown.

But also your guide is towards you.

I just feel like it would be more natural to start on the top of the head forwards and awkward to pick up uncut hair closer to you rather than away from you

Also id avoid cutting in verticals ('sideways') unless you're just cleaning up when cross checking- I feel like you risk it being uneven side to side
