Free speech isn't freedom from consequences. People can still tell you to fuck off, fire you, and refuse you service.

It just means the government can't press charges for what you say. Specifically, it's to keep the government from imprisoning and/or executing people who speak out against the government.

Seems like the people who are most interested in the concept of free speech are the ones who use it in defense of saying racist shit and spreading misinformation. Neither of those are what free speech is for.
