I think you might find this article of interest. Its an article about Elinor Ostrom, who won a nobel prize in economics 2009, for her work on the Tragedy of the Commons.

You cant separate technological progress from social progress. Technology can be utilized for authoritarian means or libertarian one. Capitalism would never utilize technology to liberate us from unwanted work, it would only use it for more domination, control, and surveillance. I could name some examples if you want, but only if you ask for the sake of brevity. There isn't even a guarantee that our technology progresses to such a level, we could enter an era of stagnation.

The core of solarpunk is that there needs to be a deliberate effort to achieve a post-capitalist society, one could just call this anti-capitalism. And to to that, we need a vision of what we are aiming for. Utopia is something that we must demand and take for ourselves, it won't just fall into our laps.

there shouldn't be an external incentive to be productive. people should work because they want to. this is a reddit comment so im nog gonna put much more effort into it but feel free to ask questions.

you literally could think about it as a mech though. but instead of having a UI, you have your senses to tell you how hungry/thirsty you are, when you need to pee/poo, if something is injured, etc.

tibetan monks can raise their body temperatures, including their extremities, through meditation. we really are just fancy mechs huh.

Yeah no this isnt critical thinking lol. Critical thinking would be realizing you have no fucking clue what those numbers mean because youre not a fucking virologist fucking lol.

I rewatched and my general take away is still the same as before: it pushes an agenda of regulation, rather than decommodification. The internet is a commodity itself nowadays and rife with exploitation of its users; Netflix sees the writing on the wall.

Leglislation is coming and they want to have some kind of voice in how that happens. The people in this documentary are people who also want regulation, but they arent in cahoots with Netflix or something. This documentary is aimed at liberals who can feel what the internet is doing to their minds but dont know why. Nothing proposed in the documentary will ever solve the problem though, only decommodification will.

edit: just realized this person is the covid denier from lower in the thread lol. conspiratorial thinking is not good nor criticism, it is irrational garbage. also, you can see how theyre looking for something thats not there when they say this:

All I see in that documentary is a covert advertisement for the ultra totalitarian world the tech companies dream of achieving

they literally just want money. thats it. they want to profit however they can as much as they can. the way the internet is right now is not sustainable, and, again, Netflix sees the writing on the wall. regulation is the best that Netflix can hope for.

guys capitalism has existed for like 300 years tops. capitalism is just a symptom of a wider problem, the development of hierarchy and the expansion of domination.

COMMENT 22d ago

I could write a whole ass essay on it, I really do think its a lot more complex, but also mundane than that. We can never truly pin down what it was (because the development of hierarchy happened in several places throughout the world independently of each other), but theres a reason civilization as we know it started at the end of the Last Glacial Period, when climate change caused the planet to warm up and agriculture to be more viable.

no i dont, youre the one talking about redditors as if theyre a monolith. i dont like car-centric urban planning because its harmful to the human experience. american suburbs after WW2 are largely developed like this, but there are still some small suburbs out there that arent car-centric.
