I had this same thing. One of my front teeth came down, the other didn't. They gave me braces on just the front upper set of teeth and slowly winched it down and into place.

No one is so deaf as those who chose to be. Good day internet stranger.

Of course you demand it from them, every time you purchase an item. Less than half of a barrel of oil is turned into fuel, the rest is turned into products. If you buy products, you create demand.

You are correct. And you help them do it. So do I. We all do. My point is we should see in it our own culpability and stop helping them do it.

I agree with you in that the system is designed to encourage consumerism and hide the dirty details. But it's not the oil companies fault people are ignorant of their own part in it. I think you're focused to much on who gets the blame rather than on who needs to do something. Consumers have the power. Yes, we should absolutely hold them accountable. But we are more likely to change before those who profit will. If all of their profit was removed from them and sent to the government, the consumerism machine would continue to rage on. Don't hate them just because they're getting rich. Blaming them while not changing our behavior is easy but fruitless. The answer lies with us was the gist of my point.

You seem overly concerned about blame and not solutions. It doesn't matter who is "equal parts at fault"; what matters is that we stop it or rather how we stop it. Who wins when you and I have an internet argument? They do; certainly not us. Think of it this way: everything within sight of you right now is brought to you by big oil. The device you're interacting with me on, the chair you're in, the food in your belly, the house or office you're in. The items in your bag, the parts of your car, the machines that built your house, the grass, shrubs and trees in your yard. None of it came to you or was manufactured without hydrocarbons. These are hydrocarbons that you entered into an agreement with a retailer to purchase. An agreement that you had an option to enter. If you wait on big oil to curb your buying habits, brother you're going to be waiting a long time. Take the money out of the equation if it makes it easier for you. If oil companies made no profit and all that $ went into the federal coffers, do you think there would be less consumerism? Of course not. I'm not saying that big oil isn't a shit structure and needs to step up and be held responsible. They absolutely do. But people need to understand their own culpability. They sell us what we ask for. And they will continue to do so while you stand there with clenched fist, stomping your feet writing angry comments online about them. They don't care if you think they're assholes as long as you keep sending them money.

This is the way.

I wish more people understood this. It is so easy to shit on big oil, but they're only selling us what we continue to demand. Yes they're shit, and yes they're deceptive as fuck. But you're lying to yourself if you think consumers aren't just as much to blame. We drive the demand for all of this shit. We're as addicted to buying shit we don't need as they are addicted to our dollars. It's just easier to hate them because they're getting rich. If we stopped buying the products hydrocarbons are used for, they would have less money.

I have problems with reading comprehension due to a brain injury several years ago. I live most of my life by looking for TL:DR short cuts. Sometimes they're available, sometimes not. I do a lot of swinging and a lot of missing but I'm still moving forward.

What is the TL:DR on the new Reddit User Agreement and Privacy Policy that starts next weekend?

It can't be torn down. Houston citizens aren't done paying for it yet. Once the bonds are up it'll be a different story.

Lifting like a toddler is good advice. They always lift with their legs and not their back. There used to be a back safety video floating around the web that had kids in hardhats and overalls showing adults how to lift properly. When we grow older (over 6-8 yo?) we get lazy and start bending over and lifting with our backs. But toddlers haven't developed the back muscles to allow them to bend at the waist. they have to squat.

The purpose of the signature in the web is to make it impossible to remove the web from your face when you're running through a cornfield in the middle of the night playing hide and go seek.

I would politely disagree. There are lots of safety nets, but not for people like this. The biggest safety net is for the middle class; our economy is built to keep consumers consuming.

Used to go there with my Dad on Saturday mornings. After a quick stop at Shipley's we'd head down to Montalbano lumber yard. A lot of memories every time I go by there.
