I work in medical claims billing department at a hospital and it’s wild how many people believe stupid stuff like this. There’s no extra money for covid cases, in fact we’re making far less money when our hospital is full of COVID patients, we’ve laid people off recently and I haven’t been allowed to work over 40 hours a week since last March because elective procedures are way down.

What we’re looking at is a discharge summary, it doesn’t reflect what is being billed at all. If you have multiple health problems and receive treatment, you are not billed per illness, your billed for labor/supplies and the diagnosis are necessary in order for insurance to cover it.

This demonstrates the very real paranoia that Americans feel about our healthcare system. When we prioritize profits in this industry, we create distrust. If we had a single payer system, there would be no reason to worry about getting ripped off.

Ethan from h3h3 explained once that when you live stream on YouTube, once the stream has ended, the recorded video gets analyzed by an algorithm that determines if it should be flagged. It doesn’t apply to regular video uploads, just the VOD of the live stream. The easiest way to get flagged is by saying a slur or swearing and it is especially sensitive during the 1st 20 minutes. It’s all controlled by AI with little to no humans involved in the decision.
