I think you can see analogies in a lot of his writing. For instance, the Vampires who are "Black Ribboners" remind me a lot of ex-addicts who are determined to stay clean. Good to know that he reached out to communities in order to make sure he got it right.

GNU Sir Terry.

That's why I said IMO. Of course you're entitled to your own view. I just think when compared with how female characters in Sci-Fi and Fantasy are generally written, Sir Terry's were really outstanding. I see other people have been praising the Tiffany Aching character in this thread. Then you have the older Witches who are fully developed characters too. However, feel free to disagree.

Sir Terry was very good at writing female characters, IMO. From clique-y or self-conscious teenagers right through to grannies, I found his female characters well-rounded and believable.

I was thinking, could you make a game out of this? Say if you bounce something from the other side to land in the shapes made, you could score points and turn the shapes a different colour? Then previous colour tries to turn them back again?

Loving the Hitchhiker's reference!

It's depressing that there are places in the Universe (perhaps even most of it!) that humanity will probably never see - they are rushing away from us faster than the speed of light.

I can't help thinking the expansion of the Universe increased exponentially once we showed up. "Eeww! Get away from Earth - it's infested with humans!!! Run away! Run away quickly!"

I once had a guy tell me I was wearing a Star Wars skirt because my ass was out of this world.

IME, when abusive men know they've hurt you and they're in the wrong, they blame you for "making them" feel guilty. They can't handle the discomfort of feeling guilt and shame when they see you hurt and crying - and they're 100% in the wrong. So, forget receiving an apology, forget any affection or attempts to comfort you, all you'll get is an escalation of abuse.

Thank God I'm out of that situation now - and with a genuinely wonderful man who'd do anything rather than hurt me.

Yes! By definition, being extroverted is making demands on other people's attention; introverts only wish to be left alone. Why is it seen as rude when we're not troubling anyone?

100% correct. They don't see women as individual people with agency, they see us as prizes to be won.

Hikikomori, maybe? Only they're not toxic like Incels, just severely depressed and withdrawn.

I wonder how he'd feel about being allotted to a gay guy who couldn't otherwise find a date?

What I wondered was who was designing and making the technology which allowed the population to function. For example, the medical picture board which the receptionist at the hospital used, or the vending machines which either gave you what you wanted if you could afford it or a dose of sedative if you were broke.

It makes me think of vultures circling overhead, they're just waiting and hoping that your relationship will fail. Basically wishing heartbreak and loss upon you, in the vague hope that they might have a chance. It's just so horrible and totally selfish.
