I'm a teacher at the #2 High School in the state (should be number 1 but we are beat out by one that hand picks students from around the state for only 11th and 12th grades). I decided to look up my schools test scores and compare them to the national average..... yeah, we are just that. Average.
I tell that to my students often. You might be smart here, but to the rest of the world you are just normal.

When I read that section of the book I kind of imagine a DBZ-esque style movement

Actually, turtles have been around longer than most known dinosaurs. In fact, they were able to pull their heads into their shells by the time this dino was around.

I can't second Dune enough. It's amazing. Also, James S A Corey's Expanse series.

I'm starting as a 4th year teacher this year, moved districts over the summer because of the fact that you mention. Quality teachers need time to develop and create quality materials for their classes and it only comes from time. In the 3 years I worked at that school, I taught 8 different classes, only 1 of which I taught more than twice. This year coming up they wanted me to teach 4 new classes "of my own design". That, among other things, lead to me leaving. This year coming up I'll only have 2 preps, but that should change for a couple of years at least.

From what I remember in college, most parasitism works this way - carrier and host relationships in a fecal-oral route. Essentially, one stage can't happen without the other.

If I'm remembering correctly hook worms in humans act in the above way.

I'm going to plug this out there that The Expanse is an amazing series, each book as good as the last. It's closer to modern day than Hyperion is, but the character building is just a phenomenal.

Second plug would be for Three Body Problem series. It is a WILD ride that goes from modern day to the far future. Some of the best Scifi to date.
