Generally, it is usually a good idea to follow the parents’ rules when around their child. “Child needs to take an afternoon nap or they get cranky” or “Child can’t have a snack too close to supper or it will ruin their appetite” are good examples of this.

This rule is not like that at all, and that’s because it’s actually not a rule. It’s bigotry. So you don’t have to discriminate against your sister’s child because she wants you to. This kid is probably really thankful that you respect their pronouns and it lets them know that you are a safe adult.

Keep it up! NTA.

It’s also illegal in New York State, where my husband was once given a warning for doing this. It’s common in colder climates because apparently people have done it and frozen to death. People think that because they’re in their car, it won’t get as cold, but it can and people die this way more than you think. They made it illegal to try to discourage people and maybe prevent deaths.

However in practice, I’m sure people who don’t look homeless or poor end up with warnings and people who do end up with tickets, but anyway, that’s the rationale.

YTA big time! The people your daughter “doesn’t like” could very simply be people she finds obnoxious OR they could be people who treat her poorly, or make her feel unsafe. When I was her age, I used the same language to ask my parents to pick me up from a party where a 20 something year old college guy was sexually harassing me.

I sincerely hope that isn’t the situation your daughter was in, but if you insist she pay you for Ubers for that reason, she may end up staying in an unsafe situation because she’s worried about money, and that’s a really terrible scenario for you to put her in. You’re her parent and you’re supposed to help her feel safe.

NTA, you are an AWESOME mother in law!!! You are honestly my hero. Your son got what was coming to him with that kind of behavior. Since your other kids are respectful partners, I’m sure this son picked up his awful ways from friends or other sources.

As a kid, I swallowed two of my teeth. Both times, I was eating and I just. Swallowed them. Tooth was there when I put the food in my mouth, and was gone by the time I finished swallowing. I didn’t feel anything except for the empty space where they used to be.

Another time, I got a baby tooth pulled. It had the root and everything. I thought it was really cool, so I took it out of the small box the dentist put it in to look at it. I was in the bathroom, and I accidentally dropped it, and it went directly down the drain :(

I noticed that the set lists are majority old songs, and I wonder whose choice that was. I saw Conor during the Salutations tour, and he says he doesn’t like playing a lot of his older songs because he’s not that person anymore. And I get it! He wrote a lot of those songs as a teenager and I would also feel weird about performing stuff I wrote as a teen, and I’m only 24. Fevers and Mirrors came out literally half a lifetime ago for him. I’m thinking that’s a big reason why he’s having a lot more fun with the new songs; he just relates to them more.

My husband loves Paramore, and when they announced that they wouldn’t perform Misery Business anymore, everyone was shocked. Hayley Williams said she just can’t do it anymore, she was also a teen when she wrote it and it’s now embarrassing to her.

THIS. Do not ever willingly give your DNA away to a corporation, EVER. They are not your friends and they can and will sell whatever you give them to the highest bidder. When my sister was in law school, she studied this extensively and made sure to chisel into my family’s brain NEVER to do these tests. NTA

My grandma’s name is Waltraud. My grandpa calls her Walt but she often goes by Trudy. Back in Germany, she went by Traudl.

My sister got a liberal arts degree. History. Went to law school and was offered $200k salary once she passed the bar (which she did, of course). She’s already paid off the majority of her loans after 18 months.

But go off I guess.

I have a serious food allergy myself, I believe what you’ve said 100%. That’s why I crawled on the floor of the greasy kitchen to find the box with the ingredients for the oil for her; I take allergies super seriously because I know personally what happens when you don’t.

But the fact she didn’t even realize soy sauce contained soy, and she was eating edamame, AND she was requesting her sushi rolls to be made with soy paper (she said “can I have the pink stuff instead of seaweed”) made me go hmmm.

I once worked at a sushi/Chinese restaurant and we had this one customer demand to know if our fryer oil had soy in it because she was allergic. We were like “ma’am, soy products are in almost everything here.” She didn’t care, she just wanted me to check the oil. So I did and it was vegetable oil that “may contain soy”. I returned to her table where she was dumping soy sauce all over her sashimi even though I had specifically brought her coconut aminos (soy free alternative). I told her that was soy sauce which contains soy. She said “oh does it? I guess it doesn’t bother me in this form” 🙄

Specifically with the Black Death, Jews were all around much more hygienic than Christians in that time period. Because of this, the plague was much less transmissible in their communities which then caused fewer deaths. The Christians noticed that they were much less affected by the plague and decided that Jews were poisoning their wells and even got some to confess after torturing them.

Not me, but when my dad was a kid, he hurt himself in a bunch of ridiculous ways. He went down a large hill (the niagara escarpment, like a BIG hill) on a bike with no brakes, hit a divot in the road and flipped over his handlebars and literally bit the asphalt. He had to get his broken teeth removed from his lower lip. He says he liked how it made him look really tough when he played hockey because he had no front teeth haha. He has a bridge now though so you can’t tell.

He also used to race his friend through the friend’s house and out the back. The back door was glass and was usually unlocked, so they would just push it and it would open. However, his friend’s grandma was watching them that day, and she had locked the door. My dad was racing his friend and was winning, and when he got to the glass door, he ran right through it. He had giant cuts all over his body and his nose was hanging off his face. He needed so many stitches, but the doctors who did it were really skilled, so very few of the scars are visible, but the ones that are are very large.

Both of these incidents occurred within a year of each other when he was ~10 years old or so.
