Oh no, I was just giving my first impressions. It's not a movie I'm going to watch again immediately but it's definitely getting future viewings and all in all it was fun. Definitely a product of its time and I think if it were made today (if it could be) it'd be too mean-spirited to work as well as it does.

Troma wasn't involved in the production. They purchased it five years after it was made. It was produced in '76 as "Sardu: Master of the Screaming Virgins" and the released to theaters as "The Incredible Torture Show". Troma purchased for distribution it in '81 and renamed it and initially tried cutting it down to an R rating but ended up releasing it unrated as it was (all from the wiki page). And yes it's intended to be humorous as evidenced by both Ralphus and bits like the backgammon scene. It's definitely a fun movie but it's a specific kind of fun.

I had to look it up and found this:

Lloyd Kaufman, in his book All I Need To Know About Filmmaking I Learned From The Toxic Avenger (required reading), calls “probably the most f*cked up film in the Troma catalogue.” In the intro to the Blu-Ray re-release, Kaufman further elaborates by saying Bloodsucking Freaks is the only movie which “…in the 40 years of Troma, were it to come around today, we would refuse [to release]” For those who know Mr. Kaufman and the films he has both made and distributed, this is truly saying something.

Haha, the "doctor" was the worst. Also notably the only actual blood sucking freak.

Oh I'm no stranger to B horror at all but even by those standards this one is pretty unique. It's almost but not quite porn in a bizarrely fun way. Sort of the horror equivalent of a Russ Meyer movie without the film making talent that Meyer had. As strange as it sounds the overall look and feel almost felt like a dirty Wild Wild West episode.

Horror comedies - Evil Dead 2, Chillerama, Psycho Goreman, Student Bodies

From there move into movies that are less comedic but still generally light. The Hatchet series is great because it's over the top gore and you can tell everyone is having a good time making it which puts people at ease. Trick 'r Treat and Krampus are both great seasonal examples of those kinds of movies and I'd put Creepshow, Tales From the Darkside, From Dusk Till Dawn, and even some Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies in the same category.

If she can get through that she should know what she's wanting to get into next.

Halloween is huge for my wife and I. We start decorating on Sept. 22, the first day of fall. This year, in addition to our normal stuff, we are making a Halloween tree out of last year's Christmas tree that is being decorated with bones and bird feet ala Texas Chainsaw.

So far as movie traditions go, the only ones I make a point to watch are Trick 'r Treat and (just because it is fun) Chillerama but of course I fo watch a bunch of other horrors through the season.

My daughter and I had a tradition of watching a bunch of horror but she's off at college now and this'll be the first year she's not at home so that's a little sad.

Haven’t even watched 1978 or whatever recent one there was, was kinda over it by then

"1984" It's fun for the first few episodes but really goes off the rails when it turns into yet another "violent ghosts trapped in a haunted place" story.

Season 10 "Double Feature" is playing right now. So far it's about a drug that amplifies people's talent but turns them in quasi-vampires as a side effect. It's a unique idea and no ghosts yet (thankfully) but it's loaded with AHS's typical hammy performances and questionable writing choices.

Cult was such a missed opportunity. Evan Peters absolutely killing it playing notable real life cult leaders (Koresh, Jones, Applewhite, Manson) shows what could have been done with a cult story but they wanted a political season instead and the S.C.U.M./Zodiac storyline was really dumb.

The worst season IMO is Apocalypse. So much if it was filler that ended up not mattering at all and it was clear they were making it up as they went along rather than having a clear outline for the story across the season.

Roanoke is a favorite in my household too. I think the reality show idea was a fun angle on what would be yet another haunted house story.

It's not about emissions, it's about infrastructure. State roads are largely paid for through fuel taxes. Now that cars are getting much more efficient or are not using fuel at all the states will have to come up with an alternative income source to cover those costs. I don't know about GPS receivers like OP said but it's just a matter of time before mileage is metered I think.

Yeah, there's a whole population of feral rhea there. They are pretty hardy birds, can outrun almost anything, and eat mostly grass so they do very well.

COMMENT 1d ago

is this considered BEEF in other states?

No, by definition beef is from cattle but it's very similar.

are these birds really red meat?

Here is a picture of some sliced rhea meat. The ratites all have red meat due to the structure of their muscles which are different since they are flightless and built for running rather than flying.

The smaller eggs are partridge and quail.

These four rhea eggs are the equivalent of almost 45 medium chicken eggs.
