Scale's in the bathroom; if I'm in there, I'll just weigh myself. I even track progress with the "personal best" instead of trying to do an average, it's more motivating somehow to have a randomized reward

That's why they don't allow any alternatives to the browser either

They do start outside of the pool usually, right?

We shouldn't have to guess when reading the doc saying it should be legal

The hobbit names are all "translated" so that the meanings come across in English. "Merry"'s name is actually some hobbit name that sounds like the hobbit word for cheerful when you shorten it

I've been super disappointed by the goomwave defense docs. No details about how anything is implemented, just "we found a controller once in 2010 that could do this. All box controllers sort of do it. Here is the button sequence to enable it" for 20 different things.

"Rounding" your analog inputs to a 1.0 cardinal or a firefox angle or an uptilt is so obviously a macro, that I guess they just can't defend it. But if that's what the controller is doing, they should admit it in the technical document defending the controller, and let people decide based on those facts.

You don't have to be a good player to wobble someone new. That's like, the whole point...

1

COMMENT 3d ago

Mainly it's the stage positioning that makes me ok with it. Yeah if you get fsmashed in the corner you might have no options to survive either. Maybe I'd feel different if I actually saw or experienced more handoffs

COMMENT 3d ago

Melee isn't played as a Bo5 of Bo3 of 2 stock games. You can't really compare them like that and say a wobble is only 50% life, since melee doesn't give you any way to earn that stock back

(if you're going to reply to the above, don't read this first)

My answer is definitely no... They are unrelated systems that can barely be compared. You certainly can't do math and say 2*100/4 = 50% life. An incomplete list of reasons why follows. Some of them probably don't hold up to much scrutiny.

  • You don't get 2 extra stocks in melee if they take 2 and you take 2

  • If you both take half a lifebar from each other, you probably both have meter by now, or someone built a comeback mechanic. Completely different from tied at 3 stocks

  • Lifebar in fighting games barely affects which neutral tools you can convert off of

  • You heal to full when you win a round. Maybe one of you has more meter or burst, but it's nothing like CC and respawn invincibility vs an 80% character

  • When you do 50% damage, you might still have the corner, or break the wall. It doesn't reset giving them an advantage

  • Just imagine a Bo5 of Bo3 of 2 stock games of melee. No one would say that's anything like our current ruleset, but if 1 stock is really 50% life, we should think they're the same

COMMENT 4d ago

Does anyone who's played both actually believe that 1 health bar in a fighting game is equivalent to two melee stocks? No math, no logic yet, just rely on your gut feeling. Do they feel equivalent to you?

From everything I hear, the stuff they added post release didn't have much to do with what they promised before launch either. It's only a success if you ignore all of their marketing and look at it as an early access game, where they iterate on an unfinished game to see what people end up liking.

I blame single elim qualifiers for hawaii all season... Sounds arrogant I know but there's no way either region sent their best 2 teams every time

I think marth can fast fall to avoid tumble? Probably hard though

COMMENT 5d ago

I think RoA already lets you wavedash with horizontal inputs, so it could have 2 lengths. The implementation is easy, in melee terms you just need a taller ECB during your airdodge, like how horizontal wavelands are possible

Terrible input lag too unless you know what you're doing
