So um... am I the only one who thinks that's kinda fucked up? There's gotta be someone else, right?

Thanks, and if you're interested in zen buddhism, I'm a big fan of Alan Watts. His lectures are all on youtube, they're very down to earth in spite of the mysticism at their roots. He tries to remove the metaphysics of religion from his philosophy and leave only abstract philosophy. He's also an entertainer first, so he's easier to listen to than a lot of lecturers.

Also he's dead, he died like 50 years ago, but a lot of his lectures are on youtube.

Hmm, fair enough.

I feel like this goes against everything he's tried to teach us...

The number of things that weren't accounted for in this video... "Don't put accelerant on a vibrating surface and set it on fire", the fuck people, come on.

I would love a subreddit of home crafted horror tomes but /r/grimoireofhorror is already taken...

and the default rewind mechanics are so trash so often. Jump back 15 seconds. If I could pay attention for 15 seconds I wouldn't be in this mess.

Also, when pushing the button multiple times increases the interval, so I've pushed "Jump back ten seconds" 4 times and I'm at a point 5 minutes ago. Like bros, I totally have time to be fucking around with your super helpful and properly labelled interfaces, I'm just driving, it's not like there's anything that requires my attention going on.

Well you certainly have a type.

Wow this just keeps rolling in the punchlines, doesn't it? This is excellent, though I wonder what the artist sees...

so there's a neat parable, but I only have one hand today, I'll tell it as best I can.

For context, sidharta was born a prince, and his father went to extraordinary lengths to protect him from the knowledge of suffering. Sidharta didn't even know about sickness, aging and death until he was a young man. When he realizes this, he realizes He doesn't actually know anything, and goes off on a quest for enlightenment. stuff happens, dah dah dah, and now he's pursuing enlightenment via the other extreme: a life of only suffering.

So Sidharta was pursuing enlightenment through the ascetic path, including eating only seeds and things like that. One day he's sitting under the bhoddi tree meditating when a boat goes by carrying a musician and his student. Sidharta over hears the musician explaining the sitar's strings:

If you wind the string too tight, it will snap, but if you wind it too loosely, it won't play

and Sidharta realizes the ascetic path isn't any better than a life totally ignorant of suffering. So he goes and tells a kid he's hungry, and the kid gives him some rice and eats it, and it's good cause he hasnt eaten real food in six years and also cause rice is dope.

His students feel betrayed and sidharta is all like

Hey, I learned something new, I changed... shut the fuck up.

I think that's actually the moment he becomes "The Awakened One" and I think that's actually WHY the bhoddi tree is called the bhoddi tree.

not an anthropologist, not a religious studies academic, just a fan of cultures and religions. normally I'd do more research before a post like this but I burned my hand, so I only have one (for now), and I'm not dedicating any more effort to this post.

https://www.storytellersvault.com/ there's also a whitewolf specific portal for the people who are like me, and don't understand why there are RPGs which aren't world of darkness.

I kid, I kid, I can see the value in other RPGs.

I don't get this, I know that's a spoiler, but why is it "for the entire planet"?

I've also been rereading mage the ascension 20 but... that's only a little bit in the same vein.

I took a break from marathoning ducktales to marathon wandavision in one day. Quack pack was the next episode on the queue.

Fuck I was gonna make a comment about how this was obviously a joke or discord engineering and there's enough doubt in my mind to believe this is real...

Haha, oh man. Hey yeah. Youtube music has an absolutely tragic interface, the guy in charge of that service should be in fuckin' jail.

Yeah this is another example of New Girl being weirdly cognizant with it's writing. We're basically looking at a typical emotionally abusive relationship. Schmidt, soaking with insecurity, seeks the approval of others way past the point of being healthy. Benjamin is the sort of person who senses that in people and strings them along because he get satisfaction from hurting people I guess.

In our culture, especially on reddit, we talk about that relationship all the time, just we always do it with a tone of such severity. I never fully realized that's what was what was going on here because it's played so lightly for laughs.

New girl does that sometimes, it's just like weirdly conscious of these little tragedies in life, but way more often it's shirtless winston trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle with an almond, so I never realize it's happening until after the fact.

At first I thought this was a terrible idea then when he gives in to exultation at the end, I realized this was a man with a dream.

Then I thought of tom paris giving his speech justifying piloting the first warp ten drive.
