I am half way done with mine, which means I only have 3/4 left to write, then I will be 90% done.
I never felt so more attacked, but also related to at the same time.
And the kicker is that once you’re done you are sick of your field and end up doing something completely unrelated, where the fact that you even got that title goes unnoticed
My partner did this. While studying you can see how political academia is, and the sort of people who do well in it.
Not that corporate work is any different lol

I’m unironically getting my masters in bakery technology and it’s a shithole like no other.
Academia has the way of ruining everything for you. Even sweet warm croissants.

But remember it was sweat and tears of the people who made it possible. Unless you come to a one-of-a-kind artisan bakery, your croissant is almost certainly made on the factory, very likely in the night shift, delivered as refrigerated/frozen semi-finished product, and put into oven in the place you consider “bakery” by the angry people who had to get up at 4am to do it for the minimum wage.
I’m lucky to have 6 artisan bakeries within walking distance!

lol bruh. I couldn’t get my job without my PhD because of bullshit elitism, but fuck if I give a damn about 1-electron transfers n shit. I make money by handling money and writing code. Worked out handsomely for me.

As someone in an important position once said to me, having a PhD shows that you have frustration tolerance.
I don’t have an advanced degree but that’s higher education in general, isn’t it? Just a bunch of hoops to jump through for the sole purpose of proving that you’re willing and able to jump through hoops. And yet nobody has ever asked to see my diploma in 20+ years of working.
And you could be doing fine, but still get kicked out due to politics, your PI getting canned, etc… ugh.

I had a colleague proofread it and my PI also read it once… probably.
My boss read the first chapter I turned in, decided I know what I am doing, gave me some basic feedback, and has completely checked out since then lol.
