From Twilight Zone to X files to Fringe. Random sci fi concepts in a story with overarching plot. Did streaming kill it?

From memory streaming services greenlight on a per season basis. While pre 2010s you would be greenlit for 2 or 3 seasons and you would hear after the first season of you would be renewed.

Most shows want to have a regular staff, especially if some are stars. With anthology each episode require new casting.

This is actually a well done scifi anthology series that respects many of the themes and motifs present across Philip K. Dick’s works.

While I have not read the short stories (I’ve mostly read his novels; about ~20 of them), many of the episodes have that psychedelic edge that Philip K. Dick is known for.

star trek strange New worlds, love death and robots, star wars visions, scavengers reign, Star Trek the lower decks, wandavision at the start at least, what if, Guillermo del Toro’s cabinet of curiosities, black mirror, electric dreams…

half of all sci-fi/fantasy anime, like space dandy, kekkai sensen, death parade, dr. Stone, mushishi, natsume yujin-cho, Pluto, psycho pass…

they’re still out there, some better, some worse. some more overarching, some more straight anthology. I think we have more variety than ever in tv. you’ve just got to look for it. unless you want long seasons. they don’t really do 20-50 episode seasons anymore, but most shows have more effort and budget per episode, so I’m cool with that.
