U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he wants his country to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are displaced elsewhere.

“We will own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site,” Trump said at the start of a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“I do see a long-term ownership position,” Trump said when asked about the U.S. controlling the territory for an extended period, adding that he is not ruling out sending U.S. troops in to secure Gaza.

Trump’s comments came hours after he suggested that displaced Palestinians in Gaza be “permanently” resettled outside the war-torn territory.

“You can’t live in Gaza right now. I think we need another location,” Trump said earlier Tuesday.

“I think it should be a location that’s going to make people happy. You look over the decades, it’s all death in Gaza. This has been happening for years. It’s all death. If we can get a beautiful area to resettle people, permanently, in nice homes where they can be happy and not be shot and not be killed and not be knifed to death like what’s happening in Gaza.”

Trump has previously called on Jordan, Egypt and other Arab countries to take in Palestinians temporarily while Gaza is reconstructed after the devastating war between Hamas and Israel, which was paused in January by a ceasefire. Tuesday was the first time he has publicly floated making that resettlement permanent.

This is so fucking stupid that I had to check other sources on what he said, to confirm it. (It does.)

No, it is not just immoral, it’s also fucking stupid. Why would he get the Palestinians or the State of Israel pissed, if he can get both pissed at the same time? The State of Israel doesn’t see those lands as belonging to some banana maize republic dammit, it sees those lands as belonging to itself.

inb4: “but Netanyahu said he was thinking outside the box with fresh ideas! That it’s unconventional thinking!”. Well, his reply is superficially polite (likely to avoid the offend the other Nazi’s precious-oh-so-precious ego), but it’s non-committing and can be easily understood as “this is crazy talk”.

It gets worse. So far the State of Israel has been trying to masquerade the genocide against Palestinians as a self-defence war. Now with Trump suggesting ethnic genocide, more people will ask “wait a minute… isn’t that what Israel is doing already?” (Yes, it is.)

Thank goodness the literal heroes who refused to vote for Harris prevented this.

So brave. So admirable. So incredibly thoughtful. What foresight.

You might want to ask the Palestinian journalists who told American voters that it doesn’t matter who is in office. Start with Bisan. I’d love to see you bark up a Palestinian’s tree who lost easily 150 people and their family. It’s crazy to see people gloat over 800,000 dead people like this.

Gloat? Hello? I’m furious. The people who pushed this angle successfully fucked the world up for a bunch of people including themselves.

They may literally have wiped us out. All of us. They almost certainly doomed millions to die of entirely preventable environmental disasters.

For what? Hyperbole? Spite? Fucking really?

I really want to know what all those folks on Lemmy that didn’t vote for Kamala because Biden wasn’t doing enough for Gaza think of this. We warned you.

800,000 dead people have you a lot to gloat about, didn’t it.

You do know that Palestinian journalists on the ground there said they knew it didn’t matter who was in office. 800,000 dead Palestinians under Biden and Harris. But continue on.

There’s no gloating here. This was a preventable escalation, but people played a moronic game and now we all have to live with the consequences.

They are typing up Bible length posts talking of neoliberalism and how the DNC can’t win elections and how Kamala should have come out against Israel so she could have been crucified by the American Evangelical Zionist community, ADL, blue hawks, and veiled Nazi media sources. You’re not going to see them take any responsibility for spreading fascism enabling paralysis of conscience. Their current attack pattern is to blame people scared of being hauled off to camps for not personally taking their Kalishnikovs to the nearest internment camp up to now to die at the gates.

As if no Palestinian ever wept for the fate of a Burmese victim and felt powerless for being half a world away. As if no Chechan man ever wept for his brothers and sisters in the gay community in Uganda. As if no Han ever wept for a Uyghur. As if Jews did not weep for the Roma.

You can take the view that the election was stolen if you want, or that it was decided by apathy, or that Americans really want fascism, but whats likely is these cold, dull pieces of shit are not to blame for the electoral turnout being what it was. What they are guilty of is being politically illiterate pawns that had no organzational outlet besides putting down other leftists online. They failed to understand that America is a colonial white supremacist state and working to change that has been a 250 year project worked on by non-passing trans women throwing bricks at cops, by coal miners getting murdered by machine guns, by laborers fighting Pinkertons, by black men arguing for themselves in newspapers, by black women climbing into bed with white men for a seat at the table, by college students getting gunned down for protesting, by corporate soldiers who could have been monarchs but had the mad impulse towards humanity at the last minute, by folk musicians, by poets, by degenerates, by satirists, by Satanists, by sci-fi writers, by unpopular pornographers, etc etc etc…

And the large majority of the time it probably felt like failing, screaming into the void and then getting shot in the back of the head.

But no color revolution ever occurred here (yet) by electoralism and the cruel detachement of bitter online “leftists” with authoritarian tendancies shouting the rest of us down as moral hypocrites.

You failed, during your life time, so far, to live up to the image they had in their head of a swelling proletariat seizing the means of production with a gat and a smile. Kamala Harris failed, in two months, to tease the United States military industrial complex, reflexive colonial state long-term goals, and Christian millinarian suicidal religious motivation, apart from the Democratic party, which perpetually exists in the chiaroscuro negative space of a white supremacist colonial state. They can accept no nuance because nuance hurts, it actually is painful and it sucks. Better to blame everyone else.

America will now do the most genocide possible instead of any variation on that. People who could have been given time to grow and live and even possibly escape now wont be. Don’t feel responsible… electoral reform is hard and democracy is thusly untenable. Go back to bed after telling a frightened girl on Lemmy she deserves whats coming because she didn’t, allegedly, care about the international situation (I saw this happen). If this is your first election cycle after coming to political awareness, fuck you imperialist pig, kys. If you’re thinking of evolving yourself and your activism don’t, you should have been there already. We are born steeped in original sin and none of us are worthy of the kingdom of Heaven. None of us deserve each others grace. Give up and collapse like a dying star and pull the world down with us.

      That’s where they’re at.

      Sorry for the word wall.

“Everybody I’ve spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land.”

This would be comical if it weren’t so inhumane. “Everybody” is the last person he’s spoken to, ie Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Forced displacement of Gaza’s population would likely be a violation of international law […]

Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli defence minister, have been issued arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Would the ICC investigate Trump as well if he take action and tries to take over Gaza?

He just pulled the US out of the UN Human Rights Commission.

He may actually be nuts enough to just pull us out of the UN and tell them to build a new HQ somewhere outside of New York, and turn the UN building into a fucking Trump tower.

Would the ICC investigate Trump as well if he take action and tries to take over Gaza?

      Maybe?

If they do, he’ll just laugh like Andrew Jackson and say ‘lets see you enforce it’.

If somebody tries to, he’ll follow along with existing US Law / Policy eatablished in 2002 under Bush, and threaten to or perhaps actually invade Belgium and the Hague, and go to war with the rest of NATO.

          Sorry, genuine question:

          He’s nut.

Does that mean He’s nutty, He’s crazy, He’s bonkers, He’s lost his mind?

          Or was that a typo?

I’m 35 and I’ve never heard anyone say ‘He’s nut’ before.

I’d say never get old as a joke but uh… yeah, looks like all our probalistic life expectancies are dropping rapidly.

It’s probably a typo of “he’s a nut.” Which, yes, your interpretation in paragraph two is correct.
