I linked NHK, basically the Japanese news source that also publishes in English. However, if you want a lot more context from the case, you can read the Crunchyroll article here that has a lot of background for the case.
Every time I watch Nichijou I lament with the idea that…a lot of people who worked on that are longer with us.
A fitting punishment
Anyone else notice that MAL locked their forum discussion on this same topic for the reason of “Please refrain from posting thread topics which extend beyond the discussion of anime/manga as an entertainment medium.”
What kind of brain dead take is that? There was nothing controversial happening in that thread, then still locked anyway.
I understand trying to get ahead of something that you think might turn toxic or veer off into realms in which heavy moderator action might need to be taken (that is basically what I did after the recent issues with the ml instance). However, trying to cast this case as not relevant to the topic of anime is a pretty strange view to take considering the lasting effects this event has had on the medium for years.
Oh yeah, japan has the death penalty…
While I don’t support the death penalty as a judicial measure, as it’s a punishment which cannot be taken back if it ever lands on the wrong person (as it in history has done many times).
That atrocity is definitely a crime where it would be warranted, were an infallible justice system possible.
