Yeah, it’s the nature of dog whistles but 88 is the only one I remember. Even so I’d probably assume birth year and think nothing of it, but I understand the concern.

Nah, you’re good. None of the gods are prejudiced in any tradition, but for causing us to learn, and to borrow an old expression, when we fail to grasp mercy, we get severity. Put another way, hard head, soft backside.

People were also born on the 14th in '88. Any of 'em who have sense don’t put that in their username though, at least for very long.

If your brother didn’t also include the month then it is pretty sus.

If they did include their entire birth date, then they clearly didn’t understand the rules of the internet.

      ㅂ

That’s how you teach this letter to English speakers.

Some will tell you it makes a b sound at the start of the syllable like bed and a p sound at the end. Others will say it’s only a b in the middle.

I was taught b at the start

I vaguely remember one of those joke story things where you’re doing math on the calculator while telling this long story and eventually end up with the punchline of “55378008.” (Boobless)

Don’t remember the whole joke, tho. Just the punchline. 😮‍💨

I just saw that joke on Silicon Valley last night. It’s on one of the episodes of the last season. It only shows the end of the joke as well, though.

If one were so inclined you could have many 5318008s on the screen back in the TI-84-85-86 days. Or write a graphing formula to draw them… my teachers didn’t appreciate that very much.

Instead of reading between the lines, the trick is to read above an imaginary line.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
