BRUSSELS, Oct 1 (Reuters) - The European Union launched on Sunday the first phase of the world’s first system to impose CO2 emissions tariffs on imported steel, cement and other goods as it tries to stop more polluting foreign products from undermining its green transition.
At last some ambitious policy. Let’s hope it won’t be watered down by big business like the German EV makers or French agrobusiness lobbying right now
This is a goog thing.
Very goog indeed.
I predict all the chuds who were upset about carbon prices because they meant that the work would just be shifted to unpriced countries will somehow not be happy with this either.

It’s great !
Unfortunately it will probably means an increase of prices on good on the short term but a better situation for every Europeans on the long term.
This introduces a lot of friction into international trade, green products or not
It seems to me like a good way to introduce the exact amount of friction intended. You can still ship stuff to the EU, you’re just penalised for whatever emissions that come with it.
So?
That’s one way to keep EU manufacturing competitive. Poor Germany :(
