I try to make eye contact, especially where multi-use paths venture into intersections on a cross ride, because people ALWAYS drive right into the cross ride as they “stop” for their turn. But I’m finding more and more that the tint on many vehicles makes it impossible to even see if the driver is looking at you. So, I’m often forced to stop waiting for them to stop, just so I can continue with my right of way. Incredibly frustrating, but you’ve gotta stay alive.

I’ve nearly been hit a few times by turning cars… while wearing high-viz and reflective clothing… riding a bike that’s high-viz… riding on tires that have reflective sidewalls… while using a flashing front light, a solid front light… equipped with a flashing rear light… and riding in a slow, predictable way.

Being visible only works on those who are paying attention around you, and these days that means fewer and fewer people.

In the RC car world, I’ve heard of people having their workshop go into flames from batteries that were simply in storage… not charging or anything.

I keep mine (RC car batteries) in a special, fireproof box when they are not in use, and also charge them in that box (as it’s designed to be).

Not an easy way to do with this larger, e-bike batteries, especially when those batteries are built into the frame of the vehicle (some e-bikes and pretty much all e-scooters).

I use FF as my primary browser on my desktop, laptop, and mobile devices.

As much as I love and support FF and the Mozilla Foundation, I find that some websites simply need a Chromium-based browser to function properly. It’s frustrating as hell.

I’ve been to loads of public events where I’ve had to sign a release form acknowledging that my photo may be captured and that those images may be used in marketing/social media posts, etc. That’s because being at the event makes me the subject. While this wouldn’t be a concern if other people in the group are taking photos/video for their own personal use, the fact that those images may be used for commercial purposes changes the context.

If social media asshats want to use someone’s photos or video for their own commercial purposes, they should be following the same rules as any other professional.

For clarity, we aren’t talking about randos being filmed while on a walking tour of a city; we’re talking about specific people being targeted and recorded as the main subject without consent and with the explicit purpose to use their video for commercial content.

Nearly every country has laws protecting people from having their images used for commercial purposes without consent.

Generally speaking, it is “OK” if you happen to capture people on video while you are recording a public space.

However, the article is referring to situations where people are being video recorded, without their knowledge, as the main focus of the video.

In this case, it should be treated like any TV or movie set, where consent must be given.

I see it as video recording for commercial use, so permits should also be required by these social media degenerates, before a single frame is captured.
