  • does he really do much pontificating? I’ve generally just seen him as someone that communicates upper high school, lower college level concepts in ways that are fairly understandable for those with little science background.

I mean yeah he comes off as a smug asshole in the process, but to my knowledge I’ve never seen him really pontificating on say the bleeding edge of what fields he’s not in can do. Though maybe that’s just something I’ve missed seeing him do.

I mean, just in general he was a genious, but also like many geniouses, he fell prey to a shit ton of nonsense. From how I understand it, he spent equal time and believed in equal importance on his study of physics, alchemy and finding hidden codes in numerology of the bible.

Sense of humor and personality, no clue, don’t think that generally is super strongly carried in surviving literature.

  • “Why should I trust a bunch of randos with it? Why should I give them my password? […]”

lol that right there you should respond no one should have your PASSWORD (singular) to begin with. Companies large and small have data breaches all the time. If the same password is on more than 5-10 sites, you should assume it’s been compromised by now, and explain that they need a password manager.

Far as it goes with professional companies, we are talking public posting social media, the differences between them are all public, the biggest thing is what they chose to censor. Twitters cool with letting nazi’s speak, but censoring the left. Most lemmy instances are the opposite, but there even are lemmy instances that are backwards with that… which is the point. We all have differing oppinions on where the line should be drawn on acceptable speech, Being able to custom pick one of 50 groups is more likely to find one that works for you, than picking one of 3 social media giants that will have their own rules.

  • That’s literally the thing though, and perhaps where the USSR went wrong. There is no magic bullet that would make a small nation able to survive a large attack, asside from strong allies with a ton of bigger nations, and sadly being different, and a possible threat to the status quo, doesn’t help with that.

That’s like saying being a serial killer helps survival over being a law abiding citizen that cares about others. Proof when I put a law abiding citizen and a serial killer in a locked room… the law abiding citizen doesn’t live as long. Of course the reality is, being a serial killer is evolved as the exception rather than the rule in humans, because, with numbers not making enemies is a more succesful strategy than always making them.

  • Put simply, Lets say hypothetically he’s like you on lemmy.cafe.

and we’ll say he’s posting to to lemmy.world/c/memes which he was banned from.

His post will show up to lemmy.cafe users connected to memes… but his posts will only show up on the lemmy.cafe version of memes. When cafe federates back to world, world will just ignore the posts and not share them.

In addition they won’t be seen by, lets say programming.dev here, while it hasn’t banned this person, it’s looking to world for it’s copy of the community, which will not have your friends posts.

  • I mean the concept seems pretty obvious. Obviously it won’t be supprising when a film is made completely through AI… What will be suprising will be if it doesn’t suck.

I find it weird that this is being viewed as a difference between the 2, when to me the quotes seem pretty much the same. IE the father

father: “I see you did this, it’s terrible and I want nothing to do with it, it’s an insult to life”.

Son: “I don’t think it’s unlikely people will make a movie entirely through AI, whether anyone will want to see it is anyone’s guess”.

I don’t see any quotes from the son on his opinion of quality, and if anything I see skepticism towards quality. I don’t think anyone can deny, a lot of people are going to try really hard to make full movies entirely from AI. That’s as obvious of a statement as “people will try to make cars that drive themselves”.
