  • The evidence isn’t even that strong, there i just aren’t that many people willing to risk becoming a pariah to dispute them.

If you are a Christian, there is no doubt Jesus existed. Any oblique reference to a rabbi who was persecuted hundreds years ago is considered evidence that Jesus existed. But no contemporaneous documentation exists.

If you’re not a Christian, debunking all of those vague references that might be proof of a Jewish leader named Jesus just isn’t particularly important, won’t persuade anyone who believes Jesus was(is) God, and will paint a target on your back for terrorists.

  • Because Conservativism is not an ideology. It’s narcissism dressed in a stoic costume. Conservatives believe themselves to be righteous, so they support policies and legislation that benefit themselves. They gain followers by promoting a sense of belonging so they can defend the self and attack the other. There is no lie to brazen, no hypocrisy too obvious, no depth too low for a conservative seeking power, because they are justified by their identity. If the conservative is good, then anything the conservative does or says is good while they are doing it or saying it.

When they can no longer hold power through politics, they always fall back on fascism and bigotry.

  • Alexa was never supposed to make money by itself. It was supposed to do two things, collect information and lower the barrier to buying things.

They must have either collected enough data to lower the value of collecting any more, or they have realized that people got over the novelty of asking Alexa to order more dog food.

My guess is the latter, because buying anything from Amazon now requires 15 minutes of research to make sure it’s actually what you want and not at some ridiculous marked up price. I wouldn’t trust Alexa to pick the best result on the first try.

  • OK, but in this story, “they” is federal judges in an actual position of authority who recognize the threat and possess the means to a remedy. I’m not like sitting in a field, staring up at the stars, wishing someone could cure my lonely condition. I don’t want someone to do something, I want these two judges to force Aileen Cannon to step aside like they suggested she should.

They can do something, they know what should be done, and they do nothing because they lack the political will. If enough people stand up and demand action, we will see action.

That’s something we can do. That’s something I’m doing right now, and it’s something you’re discouraging for some reason.

  • Well, I’m not able bodied, but even in my prime I never had the skills to track down and murder anyone, much less a famous judge. I assume that’s what you’re suggesting, and I’m not capable, morally, financially, or physically of committing such an act.

Not to mention, if we can overcome fascism through democracy and the rule of law, our nation will be stronger for it, and new fascists will die on the vine. If we use violence to achieve our goals, we create martyrs and inspire zealots. We will reap what we sow.

  • I believe you’re mistaken. A Planck length is the minimum length we can extrapolate down before physics gets weird, but that doesn’t mean it is the smallest possible length anything can be.

And an irrational number does exist as a discrete unit, it simply cannot be described as a fraction. Case in point, if you could create a spherical particle that was exactly 1 Planck length across, it would have a circumference of exactly π Planck lengths.

By your logic, such a theoretical particle could not exist because the circumference includes an irrational number in the size of the body.

Right, by my point is that your accuracy and precision are the same whether you are making a 1 meter length object or a π meter length object. Your meter stick is not accurate to the width of a hydrogen atom, either.

But if we accept the precision of our manufacturing capabilities as “close enough,” then it is equally as close to exactly π as it is to exactly 1.

In other words, to say we cannot make an object that is π meters is to say we cannot make an object that is any specific length.
