I mean… As an American, that’s certainly a valid question. The short answer is that the modern American political two-party system has become the biggest shitshow in American history. For a longer explanation, I saw a video on a Canadian PeerTube instance that really explains the situation better than I could.

        Here you go.

We’re pretty dumb and ignorant. Our education system is awful and incredibly inequitable (funded by local property tax so only nice areas have adequately funded schools). I recently read that like half the country reads below a 6th grade level. And we have an overwhelming level of right wing disinformation coming from “news” outlets like FOX, OAN, etc.

Even with all that, about 1/3 of the country loves Trump like he’s a god, 1/3 hates him like he’s the devil and 1/3 is completely tuned out of politics. Shit is about to get real bad here and no one will be able to ignore the economic disaster so I think those numbers will change in the next few months.

Half of adults reat at or below the 6th grade level.

That doesn’t mean they don’t have an expansive vocabulary, it means they can infer but not abstract.

So, it’s bad if my daughter suffers they may ibfer from their own suffering, but women in general and possibly ways their daughter may suffer elude them.

We have a broken election system here in the states, but not a popular president.

The Democratic Party is at best center-right but with their enablement of genocide and crack down on protesters they are probably just as fascist as Republicans.

Republicans however also: deport people with a legal right to be in the country, including citizens, without due process. Want to destroy all progress made on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. Wish to reduce women’s rights, some including voting rights. Want to abolish the separation between church and state.

Even if there is a close resemblance between the two parties on Gaza, but there are plenty of other issues where they are still incomparable, and ignoring these differences and calling both parties equally bad does not help.

Don’t get me wrong the democratic party is shit, but I don’t recall paramilitary thugs dragging people off the streets and disappearing them under Biden or Obama.

The Republican Party has always been worse, but it shouldn’t be the yardstick we judge the Democratic Party by. Otherwise the worse the Republican Party gets overtime the worse the Democratic Party will get too, since the only requirement will be for them to be better than the Republicans and not to be actually good.

I dont disagree with that, but you said “probably just as fascist as republicans” which is obviously not true as, again, only one party is using paramilitary violence to target unwanted groups and political opponents.

And the voters who support Palestine sure did a good job keeping the worst of two options out.

Ohhh well, at this rate the Palestinian question, likely won’t be an issue next election.

How’s this one… From the river to the sea Palestine will be just a string of resorts for you and me!

I never tried to hedge anything. I Like the 2/3rds solution. Every time Hamas or Palestine hurts someone they loose 2/3rds of their land!

Is this you a week ago? Im not suprised a zionist doesn’t want genocide to be a voting issue. It would be better if we just pretended it wasn’t happening so your buddies can keep sending missle straight into refugee tents.

I think most people don’t realize they are mad about the repercussions of a somewhat “unchecked” capitalist system and point the blame (rightfully) at “insiders” and “elites” who they believe are enriching themselves at our expense. The Reich wing media also works wonders at directing “class conflict” into “social conflict” blaming immigrants and people who aren’t the same as them for all of our issues…

Where they fall flat is voting for the absolute embodiment of capitalist greed and somehow believe that because he isn’t an “insider” that means he gives a shit about them…

Propaganda is a hell of a drug.

Simple answer is that the majority of Americans still either completely agree with him, or they just hate the Dems so badly they’d vote for a potato before they vote for anyone with a D next to their name.

That or we continue entertaining the January 6 type of fantasy where we believe the entire thing was rigged.

True enough, but that’s mostly because they alienated the people who didn’t already hate America, like Europeans who thought they were too special (and white) to get the Uncle Sam boot and Chinese who didn’t care as long as they got to export cheap goods. Trump’s rampage, weirdly enough, has failed to make the people who already hate America hate it more.
